Celebrating National Veterinary Technician Week!

October 15-21 marked National Veterinary Technician Week! Since 1993, the third week of October has been a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of veterinary technicians. Here at Animal Dental Care & Oral Surgery, all our veterinary technicians are licensed with the state of Colorado, have been educated from an accredited veterinary technician college program, and passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam.

What is a Veterinary Technician Specialist?

We also have a technician who has completed even more training to become a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in dentistry with the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians. To become a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry, it is an intensive two-year process of hands-on clinical training and academic studies. Candidates need to log cases assisting with a comprehensive list of veterinary dental procedures, from root canals, to jaw fracture repairs. At the end of their program, candidates must take both a written and practical exam to receive the designation of Veterinary Technician Specialist.

The Role of Veterinary Technicians

All our veterinary technicians play a crucial role in keeping our hospital running smoothly. They draw blood and run bloodwork, monitor anesthesia, are exceptional at taking dental X-rays, and perform dental scaling and polishing. They keep our equipment and tools in top shape and in excellent running order. Most importantly, they provide wonderful, compassionate care to our patients. They are on the frontlines of our practice and are typically the main point of communication with clients. We would not be able to do what we do without them!

Come meet our trusted staff at Animal Dental Care & Oral Surgery of Fort Collins!
