Gingival Enlargement

Gingival Enlargement

Also known as gingival hyperplasia, gingival enlargement can occur because of a genetic predisposition or due to the use of certain drugs. Gingival enlargement creates pseudo-pockets between the gingiva and the teeth where plaque and debris can accumulate, leading to severe periodontal disease. Gingivectomy and gingivoplasty to reduce and recontour the excess tissue is indicated. This condition is frequently recurrent, but meticulous home care combined with regular professional cleanings to control plaque can delay recurrence.
