What are the Best Brands of Oral Supplies for Pets?

With so many veterinary oral supplies and products on the market, it can be confusing to try and figure out what to buy for your pets. Luckily, the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC®) is here to help us find products that are scientifically proven to help reduce plaque and tartar accumulation for our pets.

About the Veterinary Oral Health Council

The Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC®) was launched in 1997 to recognize veterinary dental products that are proven to help reduce plaque and tartar accumulation in dogs and cats. These products are awarded the VOHC® Seal of Approval. Use of the VOHC outside the USA began in Canada, followed by Europe and Japan. The VOHC system is now recognized worldwide. In order to receive the seal, each product must undergo very specific and stringent testing.

Types of Oral Supplies for Pets

As of March 2025, there are 18 accepted products for cats and 70 accepted products for dogs. The products for cats include prescription and commercially available diets, water additives, topical gels and sprays, toothpastes, anti-plaque wipes, food additives and dental treats.

The accepted products for dogs include prescription and commercially available diets, chews, water additives, topical gels and sprays, toothpastes, dental treats and food additives and dental sealants that can be applied by your veterinarian during a professional dental cleaning.

Brands of Oral Supplies for Pets

There are many brands that have products included on the lists of accepted products, but some of the more common brands include Hill’s Prescription Diet and Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina, Royal Canin, Tartar Shield, Greenies, OraVet, C.E.T, HealthyMouth, and Petsmile.
